Safety and Freedom for Black Girls and Women
Provide art therapy and racial and gender justice training for youth
Dear Family, Friends, and Colleagues,
Black girls and women are at the front and center of change in critical times in history and today. This year, I am dedicating my 2021 fundraising page for A Long Walk Home to women: Rekia Boyd, Lyniah Bell, Latasha Harlins, Breonna Taylor, Marcie Gerald, Ma'Khia Bryant, and "Hope". Please help me raise funds to support the wellbeing of Black girls in Chicago, across the country and around the world. Read this 2021 New York Times article about how A Long Walk Home created the Black Girlhood Altar for missing and murdered Black girls and young women.

As a dedicated board member of A Long Walk Home, (ALWH) since 2015 and a creator of one of ALWH's programs, Girl/Friends Leadership Institute in 2009, I am requesting your help to reach our end of the year fundraising goal of $20,000.
Black girls and women are missing and murdered at alarming rates. Last year alone, nearly 100,000 Black girls and women were reported missing, and yet this violence has received little to no media attention.
Black girls and women have been on the frontlines of fighting for racial and gender equality, but our stories and lives are often overlooked. Until now. Many are walking the path to freedom led by our ancestors, those who have fought for racial and gender liberation, like Harriet Jacobs, Ida B. Wells, Recy Taylor, Rosa Parks, Fannie Lou Hamer, Joan Little and Oluwatoyin Salau.
Your gift will support Black girls through art therapy and political action. Your donations toward art-based leadership training, emergency COVID-19 relief funds, and individual/group art therapy and counseling will support Black girls and their families.
A donation of any amount will go a long way to helping me meet my 2021 goal for A LONG WALK HOME, INC. Please consider the following contribution amounts:
$25 - Self-Care Basket for a Family Bereaved by Domestic Violence, Sexual Violence, or Police Violence
$50 - Art Kit for Healing Circle
$100 - 1 Counseling Session with Dr. Lashanda Nalls
$200 - COVID-19 Emergency Relief Funds
$2500 - 1 Year of Counseling Sessions for a Girl/Friends Youth Leader
Thank you for being someone we can count on during these changing times. We truly are more powerful together.
