Greetings beloved,

Join me in celebrating my 40th birthday by making a donation to A LONG WALK HOME, INC. From #metoo, Bill Cosby, #MuteRKelly the year that I went from 39 to 40 has seen some huge victories in the area of ending violence against women and girls. But there is still so much more to be done!

This year we are also celebrating 20 years of Story of a Rape Survivor (SOARS) a multi-media arts performance about that documents one Black woman's journey from rape victim to rape survivor. SOARS is a powerful example of how Black women have been saying #metoo and using their stories to inspire the movement against sexual violence!

A Long Walk Home is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that uses the arts to end violence against women and girls that I have been involved with for over a decade as a board member, lecturer, and performer (www.alongwalkhome.org). Our mission is to use the arts to educate, inspire, and mobilize young people to end violence against girls and women. We do this through a number of programs under the umbrella of our Girl/Friends Leadership Institute and SOARS (Story of a Rape Survivor) College programs.

What sets Story of A Rape Survivor apart is the use of many different art forms—photography, poetry, dance, song, and storytelling—to communicate a message of hope and healing in the aftermath of sexual violence. Because it began as a college project, it is also an important reminder of how college students are essential advocates in the movement to end against campus sexual assault. We end every performance with a performance and post-show discussion that will help us to approach these conversations with care and sensitivity.

Just a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for A LONG WALK HOME, INC. Your donations go to direct services for our youth leaders, allow them to participate in our programs, and provide support to the work we do in Chicago.
